Birthday Gifts And Presents

When I was young, I loved to receive birthday gifts or presents from my parents. A simple toy car or aeroplane would make me jump for joy. Occasionally, I would receive gifts from my relatives. I could still remember my auntie giving me a basketball for my eleventh birthday. I had just started learning how to throw the ball around at school. However, with my own ball, I started to get hooked to basketball until I was always back home late. Unknowingly, I must have made my dear auntie very proud because I really treasured the gift from her.

As I grew up, I started to change from a gift receiver to a gift giver. I feel so good when someone is very happy with my gift. The money spent on a birthday present is worth it. Why not? It is one of the simple ways to express one's love, wishes or friendship to another. You feel so good when you see the smile from the person. Then there are the birthday presents for the children, parents, grand parents, brothers, sisters, in-laws, friends and the list goes on.

Nowadays, birthday gifts are becoming more sophisticated and there are more choices to choose from. There are the simple items like a key chain or a book. Then there are the more expensive presents like PS video games, X-Box, hand phone and other electronic gadgets. Of course, if you are in the mood to splash , there are the more personal gifts like a jade bracelet or even a diamond earring or necklace...

To some people, giving birthday presents can be quite a hassle. However, it should not be that of a problem if a little planning and forethought is done. It should be a joy to give whether the gift is cheap or expensive.

There are many ways of giving presents:
  • Know your budget
  • Be creative but thoughtful
  • Think of the person, his likes , dislikes or desire.
  • What are his or her interest e.g computer game, jewellery, household display items, golf, or a d.i.y item.
  • Whether it is for a baby, a boy or girl, a teenager or adults.
  • Consider the color, shape, usefulness and appropriateness of the items.
  • When, where and how the gift will be given.
  • Suit the budget. Make it affordable and enjoyable.
